Mission Statement Building

A great corporate mission statement is a guiding light which directs every decision made by individuals in that organisation. Does your company have such a statement? Do your employees use that statement in decision making, prioritising and dispute management? Do your customers see your mission statement as anything more than a corporate spiel on how you are going promise great customer service?

Mission statements should take into account the values of the company and also the individuals therein. It is possible that an organisation has more than one mission statement – one to guide the company and others to guide the individual departments that work together for corporate success.

Many will have a mission statement, but rarely are they incorporated into the company ethos and personality so that they truly are expressed in the actions of everybody involved. This can take time, and certainly requires guidance.

The process of Mission Statement Building involves:

  • Corporate value elicitation
  • Goal setting
  • How to align values to customers and the marketplace
  • Communicating the Mission Statement throughout the organisation
  • How to get the buy-in of the employees
