Simplicity, Entrepreneurship and Advent Calendars

I had a really interesting lunch yesterday and spent the entire time looking in a mirror. I of course mean this in the metaphorical sense rather than the literal, but the person who I was sat opposite could have been my identical twin (barring a few obvious differences!).

Pascoe Sawyers (Author of MePLC: Your Life is Your Business) and I were introduced by someone I trained last year, and after a few rearrangements, we finally got the opportunity to meet, and I am glad we did. I learnt a lot. I remembered a lot. It was one of those conversations where you are constantly reminded of things that may have drifted away from the forefront of your mind, making fresh those ideas from the past.

We shared a lot of philosophies: responsibility, self leadership, personal development, committed and consistent action. I think it is important to spend time with people who you can learn from, and Pascoe certainly gave me plenty to think about. I hope I contributed to the conversation as much as he did!

The one thing that kept coming up however was SIMPLICITY. Success in life is not a case of complicated strategies, rather in taking consistent action and keeping to sound principles. In fact, our discussion brought me to a very concise formula for success, but that will just have to wait for another day.

To give you a run down on what has been keeping me busy lately. Swimming (of course), and although I have yet to grow gills, it does seem to be getting easier. Have been thinking about trying my first outdoor swim soon too, although not sure if it may be a little too cold… but will have to be soon! Also, I have been teaching entrepreneurial concepts in schools a lot lately with Youngbiz, a company which delivers financial literacy and entrepreneurship education. This has been great, and I know the difference this will make to some of these young people’s lives. I am also continuously amazed at the creative ideas that their minds are able to come up with – certainly something we need to be cultivating rather than quashing. Tomorrow, I get to teach Goal Setting in a college!

Finally, check out Gofer magazine, a new online publication along the lines of FHM. I have an article in there this month and will also be the Agony Uncle in future editions. It is completely free, so support these guys, sign yourself up, and help spread the magazine.

By the way, December will see the first Personal Development Advent Calendar, so make sure you have signed up to my newsletter before then. Instead of chocolates in the windows, you will get a tasty treat to fuel your positive mindset.
